Tasting notes
Made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Oude Nektar starts with a firm nose with elegance, power and precision. Layers of juicy dark red and black fruit aromas explode from the glass with floral and herbal essences. Medium-bodied, this offers layers of fruit, fresh florals and fine herbs before displaying fine-grained tannins as the wine continues to unfold and uncoil on the mid-palate, offering delectable flavors of red plum and dark cherry with hints of sage and spiced lavender. The Cabernet blend has a focused and complex finish, while persistent notes of juicy plum and pencil shavings swirl on the elongated aftertaste. Just under 3,300 bottles were produced. Give it one more year in the bottle and drink over the next 10 to 12 years. Bravo!

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Oude Nektar is Stark Condé's flagship label located at 590m altitude, the highest on the estate (replanted in 2010 after wildfire). It has a perfumed, dried violet scented bouquet with fresh black fruit, the 75% new French oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with a bright entry, quite structured and Médoc like, though it just needs a little more finesse to round out the finish. Otherwise, this should age nicely in bottle.
