2014 Santenay Clos des Gravieres

Unexpectedly sweet and broad on the nose, but tense on the palate. Not the most precise 2014 from this address. Some gas evident in this sample. (JR)

The 2014 Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières was curled up tight on the nose, though it unfurls with aeration with hints of almond and custard creams. The palate is refined on the entry with touches of green apple and lime, slightly lower acidity than the Puligny Tremblots, just losing a little concentration towards the finish.

(the only one of these 2014s that has been sulfured; Lamy blocked nearly 50% of the malolactic fermentation, noting that these young vines always produce a high pH even though he picks them first): Orange blossom and a whiff of tropical fruits on the nose. Fat, soft and sweet, showing a slightly blurry mirabelle quality. I find this a touch warm on the back end.
