Tasting notes
Deep crimson. Red/blue fruit, liqueur, floral and earth aromas, along with hints of allspice, licorice and smoky minerals. Silky and broad on the palate, offering juicy raspberry, cherry, spicecake and lavender flavors that tighten up and become spicier with air. Smoothly balances richness and finesse and finishes with very good, mineral-driven intensity, even tannins and repeating florality. While this bottling is normally made entirely or almost entirely with whole clusters, hail damage in 2017 prompted the Desvignes team to use entirely destemmed fruit. The result is a wine that is somewhat more forward than usual, which is also a function of this ripe vintage.

The 2017 Morgon La Voute Saint Vincent hails from the north of the cru where the soils are most granitic, and it’s the tangiest and most tensile wine in the Desvignes cellar, offering up aromas of crunchy cherries, cracked black pepper and licorice, followed by a medium to full-bodied, bright and energetic palate that’s decidedly crunchy and primary.
