Terrific stuff, the 2019 Château Maucaillou has ample redcurrant and mulberry fruit as well as attractive floral, spicy, and leafy herb nuances. Nicely textured, medium-bodied, and balanced, it's a classic, up-front, undeniably delicious Moulis to drink over the coming 7-8 years, possibly a decade.

Offering up aromas of currants, plums, licorice and loamy soil, the 2019 Maucaillou is medium to full-bodied, fleshy and vibrant, with powdery tannins, tangy acids and a sweet core of fruit. While it needs a bit of time to run out, it's a creditable effort.
After variable showings from barrel samples, the 2019 Maucaillou still needs to convince me of its credentials. The nose just feels rather muted and lacks fruit concentration. The palate is better, with slightly furry tannins, fine acidity, and black fruit mixed with graphite toward the finish. It’s just let down by the aromatics at the moment.
About the producer
Owned by the négociant Dourthe, this Moulis property has 87 hectares of vines today (with 67 added by Philippe Dourthe since 1967). Managed and made by an expert team, the quality here is hardly surprising.
