Bright, dark red. Sweet red berries, nutty oak and subtle soil tones on the nose. Fat, sweet and spicy, showing good fullness for village wine. Savory, serious Volnay with good vinosity and density and a saline complexity. Finishes with broad, building, ripe tannins and good savory persistence.

(includes some premier cru juice): Good dark red. Black cherry, licorice and herbs on the ripe nose; reminded me a bit of cabernet. Fat and sweet but energetic too, with lovely roundness and balance to the flavors of dark cherry, currant and spices. Finishes with very sweet tannins and noteworthy persistence. A strong village wine in the making.

The 2012 Volnay is a villages in name only, as it is a blend of fruit from four 1r Cru sites that are too small to be vinified on their own. Small red berries, raspberries, mint, cinnamon and licorice are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. Aromatic, nuanced and refined, the 2012 is classic Volnay in its flavor profile and essentially medium-bodied structure. Today, the 2012 is firing on all cylinders. What a gorgeous wine this is.
