From magnum. Dark crimson in colour and darkly fruited with that lovely rocky/mineral quality of great cru beaujolais. Powerful, dark and stony, bone dry and long. A long way to go. The polar opposite of flirtatious Fleurie. Long and a little charry on the finish. (JH)

Youthful violet. Powerful, mineral-accented cassis, cherry and violet scents pick up vanilla and woodsmoke nuances in the glass. Stains the palate with chewy dark berry, bitter cherry and mocha flavors that take a sweeter turn on the back half. Continues to open up on the impressively persistent finish, which features dusty tannins and a whiplash of sappy dark fruit.

Tank sample. Bright crimson (darker than most of the red burgundies) with masses of obvious tannin. Slightly dry end. Very youthful. Some sweetness. (JR)

35-year-old vines. Pink granite with quartz. Gobelet and cordon pruning. Yield: 32 hl/ha with 7,100 to 10,000 plants/ha. Sustainable viticulture. Destemmed. 25-day maceration with punchdowns and pumpovers in stainless-steel and concrete vats. Malolactic in barrels. Aged in 50% new barrels and 50% old barrels . Deep purple crimson. Stalky and sweetly oaky, giving a clash of herbal and sweet spice notes. The oak has thickened the tannins and given too much sweetness to the whole, just tastes of oak and it is slightly hard on the finish. (JH)
