(from vines planted in 1979 and 1998): Bright yellow-straw. Aromas of underripe pineapple, white stone fruits, mirabelle , spicy oak and crushed-rock minerality, plus a suggestion of fruit pit. Pungent, sharply delineated flavors of stone fruits and crushed rock convey an impression of power without weight. The savory minerality is accented by a note of white pepper on the tactile, rising finish, which leaves the taste buds quivering.

The 2016 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières, which comes from two parcels totaling 0.5 hectares, has an expressive bouquet with orange blossom, hazelnut, smoke and flint aromas vying for attention. It unfurls very seductive in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a crisp acidity, quite austere and stony, perhaps maybe without the charm of Les Charmes, though I appreciate the saline aftertaste. This remains tight-lipped at the moment so I would afford it 3 or 4 years in bottle.
