Tasting notes
The 2000 Aurus has a fine, eucalyptus-tinged bouquet with scents of kirsch and dark plum that are lively and well-defined. The palate is sensual and smooth on the opening. This is a more gregarious Aurus (thus far), with a corpulent, spicy, fleshy, meaty finish that is very satisfying. However, it is not quite as sophisticated as the 1999. Drink now-2020. Commencing with the Allende Blanc, I was impressed by how well this ages. Predominantly Viura with a higher percentage of Malvasia in older vintages, it develops a fine waxy texture and almost dried Barsac-like personality.

(a blend of 85% tempranillo and 15% graciano) Deep ruby. Exotic aromas of dark berry liqueur and truffle. A very dense, youthful wine with outstanding sweetness and depth of blackberry flavor. A bit less pliant today than the 2001 Calvario but still extremely unevolved. May be the best vintage yet for this bottling, but needs at least four or five years of additional bottle aging.
Sweet, simple, and easy with strong cough pastille undertow. Lots of tannins and personality. (JR)
