A Syrah dominated cuvée that incorporates 95% Syrah with 3% Roussanne and 2% Viognier, the 2014 The Dirt Worshipper comes from sites in Santa Ynez, San Luis Obispo county and Paso Robles. Fermented with 100% stems and aged 20 months in 20% new French oak, its deep purple color is followed by classic cool-climate Syrah notes of black peppery, game, blackberries, Asian spice and violets. It's another concentrated, structured, impeccably balanced wine from Yount that needs short term cellaring. It’s going to age beautifully. I found these latest 2015 releases from winemaker Anthony Yount to be firm and tannic. I’m hoping with short term cellaring these scores will seem low. Nevertheless, the 2014s are sure bets and terrific wines.

Moving to the reds, the 2014 The Dirt Worshipper Estate is a peppery, violet, lavender and dark fruit-driven beauty that has moderate acidity, full-bodied richness and chewy tannin. I'd like a touch more polish to the tannin, but this puppy has tons of fruit and charm. Give it a year in bottle and drink it through 2024.

Glass-staining ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes ripe blue fruits, incense and potpourri, along with a building Indian spice nuance. Sweet, expansive and seamless in texture, offering deeply concentrated yet lively blueberry and black raspberry flavors and a sexy violet pastille flourish. The floral note carries emphatically through the impressively long, velvety finish, which leaves behind a sweet dark fruit liqueur note.
