Here's an "annata" or "villages" Barolo from Giacomo Fenocchio. The 2014 Barolo represents a blend of fruit from various parts of the appellation. This wine is heavily marked by a menthol or balsam herb note that stands tall. I don't think I have ever encounter this specific aroma with such intensity in any other Barolo I have tasted. The wine is downright medicinal in character with a tiny touch of Band-Aid. This cool vintage most definitely sparked the green herbal notes you get here. Or, it could be a sign of a problematic development along the lines of budding Brettanomyces.
