The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Caillerets Sélection Centenaire 1er Cru has a harmonious nose, although it needed 10–15 minutes in the glass to manifest precision and detail, offering wonderful wet limestone and petrichor aromas. The palate is very well balanced with supremely well integrated oak, an undercurrent of salinity and a poised, persistent finish. Sophisticated, classy and riveting. Bottled under Diam 10. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet Clos du Cailleret "Cuvée Centenaire" 1er Cru has a very expressive, mineral-driven bouquet that displays more complexity and certainly more mineralité than the regular bottling. The palate is extremely well balanced, saline in the mouth with good acidity, very fresh but more linear and stricter than its Clos de la Pucelle counterpart. Yet, you cannot deny the penetration that comes through on the finish, the mouth-watering sapidity that makes you immediately yearn for another sip.

The 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos du Cailleret offers up notes of mandarin, lemon oil, smoke, dried white flowers and candle wax. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a tighter-knit, more tensile profile than the Clos de la Pucelle, built around tangy acids and chalky extract. This looks to be the finest premier cru in the Chartron cellar this year. Chartron will also be releasing a small barrel selection as a "Cuvée Centennaire" to commemorate the acquisition of this clos in 1917.
