2017 Meursault Les Narvaux

(this and the following wines were in barriques at the time of my visit): Pale yellow. Fresh orchard fruits and a hint of spiced apple on the nose; more vibrant than Leroux's Meursault Vireuils, which was rich and sweet, with a minerally crushed-stone finish, but was passing through an oxidative phase and was impossible to assess with confidence. Ripe peach and lemon-lime flavors are nicely framed by salty crushed-stone minerality (this wine comes from the highest part of Narvaux, just below the forest). This very fine-grained Meursault conveys a zesty quality and a light touch, finishing juicy, precise and long, with noteworthy mineral lift. Leroux told me that the "rustic red topsoil with iron looks like a Pinot Noir site." A very good example of a Meursault in which minerality makes up for lowish acidity (3.5 g/l in this case).
