Score 89+/100 · Drink 2025-2040, Neal Martin, Dec 2020

The 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru presents a mixture of red and black fruit with touches of vanilla and inkwell coming through with time. The medium-bodied palate offers saturated tannins, chewy black fruit and some wood on the finish that will need to be integrated. I quite like the delineation, so I will be optimistic about the wine’s evolution.

From lieu-dit Les Treux, Julien's 2018 Echezeaux Grand Cru unfurls in the glass with scents of cherries and wild berries mingled with burning embers, rich soil tones, orange rind and peonies. On the palate, it's full-bodied, broad and layered, with a rich but lively core of fruit and a muscular chassis of ripe, powdery tannin. Macerated for 18 days and matured entirely in new barrels, it's very promising.
