Tasting notes
The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has a very precise, focused bouquet of black cherries, crushed stone, hints of pressed iris and Provençal herbs. This seems to unfurl as I swirl it in the glass. The medium-bodied palate is quite fleshy and rounded in the mouth, offering very supple tannin and plenty of brambly red fruit. The mineralité is only apparent toward the final quarter. Not the most persistent of Grivot’s crus, but very seductive.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées reveals a lavish bouquet of smoky plums, cassis, rose petals and forest floor, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny wine that's giving and easygoing, though it may gain in depth and tension by the time it's bottled. If not, it will always rank as a supple, charming but comparatively facile rendition of this habitually excellent cuvée.
