Tasting notes
The Pieropan 2019 Soave Classico Calvarino shows a rich and silky texture that is infused with honey, ripe apricot, papaya and spicy saffron. This certified organic wine shows a lovely level of creaminess on the palate. There are hints of exotic spice and white licorice root to add more complexity and a special signature that only Garganega (blended here with 30% Trebbiano di Soave) can offer. This single-vineyard wine from volcanic soils ages in cement vats for one year. Production is 60,000 bottles.

The 2019 Soave Classico Calvarino opens slowly, yet time in the glass reveals a pungent mix of lemon oil and wet stone, offset by an enriching note of almond paste. This is elegant, with medium-bodied weight nicely contrasted by brilliant acidity and zesty green citrus tones that build tension. The 2019 Calvarino finishes long and lightly structured, leaving the cheeks puckering, as hints of kiwi skin and minerals fade. There’s a seriously bright future here. In 2019, the Calvarino production was reduced by 30% due to frost.
Gooseberry and apple pie on the nose and palate with white flower petals and a fascinating rose-water, almost turkish-delight note. Full, round and very silky with fresh acidity driving the complex flavors. Long, tight and so focused. Saline aftertaste. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
