Tasting notes
The 2014 Ribera Del Duero Preludio de Sei Solo (100% Tempranillo) offers a ripe, sexy bouquet of black cherries, blackberries, damp forest floor, and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, and layered, I love its darker, earthier, complex style and it's silky and refined on the palate as well. There's still some oak that needs resolving, but it will keep for 10-15 years.

100% old-vine Tempranillo (60-100 years). Aged in French demi-muids (600 litres). This is a barrel sample but pretty much the final wine. Deep purple crimson. Very ripe dark fruit, dark and spicy – fresh but with notes of fruit cake, too. Incredible power and concentration, giving fabulous dark fruit and a thick chewy texture, all rounded and chocolate-textured. Still has remarkable freshness given all that concentration. Big, dark but luxuriant. Black fruit – more blackberry than cassis – on the finale. (JH)
