Tasting notes
Instantly impressive and classic on the nose, the 2017 Clonal Selection Elgin Syrah gives up notions of ripe plum and blackberry before aromas of sweet wood, black pepper and dried herbs sway with elegance and precision. Medium-bodied, the wine exudes complexity with layers of dark red and black fruit followed by notions of potpourri, black and red peppercorn and seductive oak essences that race for admiration. This gorgeous wine is impeccably balanced and ends with a cascading effect over the ever-evolving and elongated finish. Bravo! I can't put down my glass!

The 2017 Syrah Kershaw Clonal Selection Elgin is matured in 42% new oak with a small batch in breathable plastic eggs. It demonstrates a little reduction on the nose, but soon shakes this off to reveal black plum, boysenberry, bay leaf, wild heather and peaty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, poised and focused, delivering great delineation and structure toward the precise finish. Absolutely top class.
