Vinfolio, Apr 2023

This is a bold and rich wine in 2022, The nose is deep, layered with ripe plum and blackcurrant fruit. It’s intense and powerful, with a plushness and polish, yet there’s also red-fruited vibrancy and freshness that ensures this doesn’t become over-the-top, holding it all in check. Blend: 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2022 Pavie Macquin has turned out nicely, offering up aromas of dark berries, licorice, bay leaf and pencil shavings, followed by a medium to full-bodied, dense and layered palate that's lively, concentrated and controlled, with excellent integration and length. Youthfully reticent, it will require a bit of patience.

Blackcurrants, blue fruits, crushed stone, chocolate, and massive amounts of minerality all emerge from the 2022 Château Pavie Macquin, a more burly, incredibly concentrated Pavie Macquin that has a lively, vibrant mouthfeel, ripe, building, substantial tannins, and a gorgeous finish. Based on the normal 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, it's a riveting, powerful 2022 that's built for the cellar. Hide bottles for a solid decade if you can, and it will have 40 years of overall longevity.

The 2022 Pavie Macquin has a fresh, vibrant, well-defined and focused bouquet with perfumed red berry fruit laced with violet and light iodine scents. There is a mineralité here that will come through with time. The palate is medium-bodied and fine with a fresh entry, fluid tannins, a keen line of acidity and a sorbet-fresh finish that urges you back for another sip. This is excellent.
