2022 Mongravey

The 2022 Mongravey has quite an austere nose at first but in a positive way. It is well defined, with graphite-tinged black fruit that gains cohesion. The palate is medium-bodied with a toasty entry. There is plenty of blue fruit here, though perhaps not quite to the level that I was hoping for after the aromatics. Overall, it's not bad.

Cru bourgeois supérieur. 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, on Quaternary Garonne gravels composed of sand and pebbles. Yield 35 hl/ha. Aged for 14 months, 91% in French oak barrels (medium toast, fine grain, seven different coopers) and 9% in Tava amphorae. Bright dark crimson. Light nose. Quite soft! Just a bit simple. This is excellent, the best vintage that I have tried from Mongravey. Supple texture, good Margaux typicity, enjoyable black cherry and rosemary spice, lovely lift, excellent quality. 12ha property in Arsac, owned by Régis Bernaleau. Also owners of Galland Moulis and Braude.
