Tasting notes
A blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2022 Vieux Maillet is terrific, pure, and concentrated, revealing cassis, black cherry, chocolate, loamy earth, and graphite-like aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, balanced, and elegant on the palate, with fine tannins and a seamless texture, it’s a beautiful, balanced, classy wine that should evolve nicely for 20+ years.

The 2022 Vieux Maillet presents a slightly static nose with a hint of sur-maturité. The palate is ripe and rounded on entry with lightly spiced black fruit, but overall it doesn't stick in the memory and feels a bit bitter on the aftertaste.
Deep ruby in colour, good quality, plenty of depth through the mid palate, cassis and bilberry, the two Cabernets really pulling their weight even though nowhere near dominant in the blend. This has plenty of character. subdued aromatics. 33% new oak, 33% amphora, 33% natural oak for ageing. First vintage under new owner at Vieux Maillet, Frederic Stévenin.
