Score 94/100 · Drink 2017-2028, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2015

The 2013 Barbera d’Alba Cerretta is a touch more precise and linear than it often is, the signature of the cool year. Graphite and smoke notes appear first, followed by deeply expressive, pliant fruit notes that fill out the sides of the palate. The freshness and vibrancy of the year are the signatures, though, in an energetic, saline-infused Barbera that will drink well for a number of years.

The 2013 Barbera d'Alba Cerretta is fabulous. Dark and explosive on the palate, the 2013 has more than enough depth to stand up to the brilliant, incisive acidity of the year. Pomegranate, raspberry jam, wild flowers and spices flesh out in an impeccable, explosive Barbera endowed with real pedigree. Today, the Cerretta offer a bit better balance than the Francia.
