The 2017 Blason de L'Évangile is a very pretty, eccentric Pomerol with strong floral/savory signatures from the 50% Cabernet Franc in this year's wine. Fresh, energetic and super-expressive, the 2017 is a real delight. Frost was especially hard on the Franc, so all of the fruit that was salvaged from the second generation crop went into Blason. At many properties, the second wine is similar in style to the Grand Vin. That is not the case here. Readers should not expect a miniature L'Évangile, but rather a wine that stands on its own.

Composed of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Blason de l'Evangile features expressive notes of crushed black cherries, mulberries and plum preserves with touches of kirsch, dark chocolate, lavender and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers great density and loads of floral sparks among the dark fruits, framed by fine-grained tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and fragrant.

The 2017 Blason de l’Evangile has a pretty bouquet with blackberry, cranberry and light iodine/seaweed aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins that are in proportion with the dark berry fruit laced with truffle and cola. It lacks a little substance on the finish but it should drink nicely for the next five or six years.

The 2017 Blason De L'Evangile is a blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc, aged in 14 months in used barrels. Its deep ruby color is followed by a ripe, complex red that has lots of Cabernet Franc assorted red and black fruits, leafy herbs, lead pencil, tobacco, and cedar aromas and flavors. With an almost Left Bank style, it's medium-bodied, has silky tannins, beautiful elegance, and a great finish.
