Ripe red fruits, leafy herbs, hints of savory flowers, and cedar all emerge from the 2021 Château Branas Grand Poujeaux, a lovely, medium-bodied, balanced, impeccably made Moulis that's perfect for enjoying over the coming 7-8 years. I'd happily drink a bottle. The blend is 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Petit Verdot, raised 16 months in 50% new oak. Tasted multiple times with consistent notes.
The 2021 Branas Grand Poujeaux has a very poised bouquet, well-defined with blackberry, raspberry and light rose petal scents that unfurl in the glass. The oak is quite well integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry, grainy texture, fine backbone and commendable "bite" on the mineral-tinged finish. This is superb considering the vintage.
The 2021 Branas Grand Poujeaux is a serious wine, especially within the context of the year. Black cherry, mocha, new leather, licorice, menthol and coffee give the 2021 notable depth and textural resonance. All the elements are very nicely balanced. Tasted two times.
