Tasting notes
From a challenging vintage for the region, the 1980 Châteauneuf Du Pape is completely resolved and mature, yet still has fruit and texture as well as a balanced, elegant style in its dried fruits, leather, and foresty, earthy aromas and flavors. Reminding me of a fully mature red Burgundy, this medium-bodied effort certainly isn't getting better, but it gives a good view into the longevity and class of the wines from this estate.
