Tasting notes
Mr. Morgat consented to meet with me but declined to have his wines formally reviewed. But I was able to acquire a bottle of the 2018 Savennières Fidès for review. The wine possesses a fresh, complex bouquet with aromas of menthol, anise, sage, spices and ripe orchard fruits intertwined with delicate toasty hints. Medium to full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it’s perfectly balanced with bright acids and a delicate freshness despite the oaky finish and abundant notes of sweet spices. While it offers plenty of immediate charm, it also has the structure to age well over the next decade.

The 2018 Fidès is a gorgeously textured, full-bodied wine that seduces you with its ripe, rich fruit. It's a wine that focuses on mouthfeel rather than aroma. It offers an attractive, bitter grip on the finish, masses of freshness and subtle oak-derived character. My only complaint is that the alcohol seems a little warm on the finish.
