Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. In fact, I have tasted two bottles of 1949 Latour-à-Pomerol on separate occasions. As part of the vertical, the bottle was out of condition, however another tasted in September 2015 was simply breathtaking. It was blessed with a heavenly Burgundy-like bouquet that just blossomed in the glass: raspberry preserve, wild hedgerow, cold stone, a touch of freshly shaved black truffle, all perfectly defined. No, it was not a vigorous or ostentatious bouquet and yet it held you in the palm of its hand. The palate was elegant and showing exquisite balance, not unlike the its sibling, the 1962 Latour-à-Pomerol. For a 1949, there was actually a little more plushness than I anticipated. However, it is the harmony, the nuanced mineralité that totally entranced. One of those bottles that you will never forget. Tasted September 2015.

The 1949 Latour-à-Pomerol was tasted from two bottles on separate occasions—one out of condition and the other breathtaking. It is adorned with an exquisite Burgundy-like bouquet that blossoms with scents of raspberry preserve and wild hedgerow. Added to this are delineated cold stone and black truffle aromas, which are nothing ostentatious yet completely beguiling. The palate is elegant and beautifully balanced, with a tad more rondeur than other 1949 Right Bank wines with wonderful mineral tension toward the finish. This is heavenly. Tasted at the Latour à Pomerol dinner at Taillevent in London.
