Tasting notes
The 2020 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru has a straightforward nose with powdered chalk, red fruit and a light Earl Grey note, gaining harmony and personality as it opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with juicy, ripe tannins, not showing the warmth of alcohol as in previous wines. The acidity is well-judged here, with maybe a little stem addition lending character to the finish. Well-crafted. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes wafts from the glass with aromas of wild berries, rose petals, orange rind and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with succulent acids and rich, powdery tannins, this is also a notable success.
Vines high up the slope. Cask sample. Mid ruby; finer than the village but with great ripeness. Lofty nevertheless. (MH)
