The 1944 Rivesaltes from Sesqueille has a more intense, perfumed bouquet compared to the 1946 with haunting scents of candied orange peel, sloes, marjoram and dried flowers. Smoky notes develop with time. The palate is medium-bodied, very elegant with super fine tannins. Delicate notes of quince, tart cherries, kirsch, spice and black pepper. It is a very elegant and composed. What a fabulous Rivesaltes! Tasted December 2012.

50% or less Grenache Noir and 50% or more white grapes: Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Maccabeu, Tourbat. Bright orangey yellow. Rancio and tangy. Lightish and transparent. Refreshing but not that sweet. Dry finish. Bracing. Foie gras partner? (JR)
