2013 Monasterio Reserva Especial

Reserva Especial is a wine that is not produced every year and could be a modern equivalent of a Gran Reserva. The current vintage for this wine is the 2013 Reserva Especial, cropped from what technical director Peter Sisseck described as "the last Atlantic vintage in Ribera del Duero." The idea here is to find a lot of wine that has a special character that is complemented by Bordeaux grapes that certainly give it a different profile, spicy and somehow herbal and balsamic, and also freshness, which is not so much needed in a year like 2013 because it comes naturally. This has a more Bordeaux character, clearly a cool vintage in the zone despite the fact that the wine also reached 15% alcohol. The tannins are very fine and have that French signature. Some 8,000 bottles produced.
