Score 90/100 · Drink 2020-2030, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2018

This Brunello opens to an unexpectedly sweet and soft bouquet that you don't find with frequency in this vintage. The 2013 Brunellos tend to be drier, more compact and streamlined compared to this wine. Pietroso's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino starts off with a healthy dose of ripe cherry and sweet spice. The mouthfeel shows bright acidity, but it also offers extra textural richness to soften any sharpness.

Dark and composty on the nose. Then palate-drying tannins. Not much fun to taste. Tart too. Extreme Sangiovese? (JR)
