Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2012 Vosne-Romanée Villages has a clean, straightforward bouquet that displays commendable tension and vitality for a village cru. The palate is medium-bodied with a light and airy opening, fine tannin, a weightlessness that does not imply a lack of intensity. This is exactly how a village cru should be: approachable and delicious. Tasted June 2015.

Good bright red. Black raspberry complicated by a meaty nuance on the nose. Supple, fat and saline; in a round style but with good inner-mouth aromatic lift. Finishes with suave tannins and very good length. Made mostly from 50-to-60-year-old vines at the base of the slope.

A gorgeous, village wine, the 2012 Vosne-Romanée is layered and impeccable. Dark red cherries, wild flowers, crushed rocks and mint all jump from the glass. The 2012 boasts gorgeous richness and depth, but there is more than enough minerality and acidity to give the wine a backbone of structure and pure vibrancy.

A blend of 12 small parcels, 80% from bottom of the slope, which is mainly clay, and the top on limestone. All in the same vat. Created in 2006 when he first started renting the vines. Heady and perfumed. Seems to have more stuffing than many other village Vosnes, but not sweetness. Really quite fine. (JR)
