Tasting notes
The 1997 Barolo is a structured, garnet-colored effort with pink/amber at the edge. Aromas of melted caramel, Chinese black tea, kirsch, tobacco, and licorice emerge from this dense, full-bodied, fleshy, powerful 1997. Moderate tannin suggests 2-3 years of cellaring is required. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2012. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. Excellent ruby red color. Pungent aromas of raspberry, milk chocolate and coffee. Silky but nicely delineated, with insinuating black cherry flavor and noteworthy richness. Appears to be riper and richer than the '96. A very good showing.
