The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet Les Chalumeaux 1er Cru has noticeable reduction on the nose that seems to suppress the fruit and terroir expression. The balanced palate displays a touch of sour lemon on the entry and moderate depth and focus. Quite saline in the mouth, leading to a conservative yet engaging finish that just falls a little flat with aeration. Give this another two or three years in bottle, as it has something up its sleeve. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (DIAM 30 closure)

The 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru les Chalumeaux offers very good terroir expression on the nose: granite, grey slate and fumé scents emerging from the glass and gaining impressive intensity. The palate is clean and fresh, a pleasant reductive touch on the entry, a keen line of acidity with a smear of clear honey right towards the finish that betrays the vintage character. This is a well-made Chalumeaux.

Bright pale yellow. Inviting aromas of lemon, lime and rocky minerality. Ripe, supple and dry, conveying lovely vinosity and purity of flavor, not to mention good inner-mouth tension. These young vines were a bit stressed during the summer of 2015, according to Sieve, but this vineyard remains reasonably cool owing to its higher altitude. Finishes with good citrussy firmness and persistence. (The Meursault Les Poruzots displayed the richness of the year as well as some minerality but was in a dry, slightly oxidative phase after the recent end to the malo and was impossible to assess with confidence.)
