12 months in 300-litre used French oak, then 24 months in larger, Stockinger botti. Pale-medium garnet, with some brick tones. Old leather, tobacco, some background cinnamon and early, pot pourri development. Attractive, gentle lift that draws you in. Dried and fresh red cherry on the palate, with some balsamic complexity. Brisk acidity, firm, fine tannins, smoky and earthy savouriness. Tarry tones through the perfumed finish. Good length. (TJ)

The 2013 Barolo is a superb, entry-level wine from Ceretto. Plush, deep and inviting, the 2013 will drink well pretty much upon release. A beguiling mélange of spice, cedar, tobacco and dark stone fruit notes fleshes out effortlessly. The 2013 looks to be a relatively early maturing wine, but it will provide considerable pleasure before that is an issue.

This is a beautiful wine that showcases the classic characteristics of the harvest. The 2013 Barolo opens to sassy spice and cinnamon with dark fruit and balsam herb. This is a firmly structured wine with a firm tannic backbone that serves to support and frame the dark and exuberant fruit found at its inner core.

The 2013 Barolo is an expressive, elegant wine. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red cherries and chalky notes give the 2013 its distinctive high-toned profile. The tannins are incisive, but not at all intrusive. I tasted the 2013 from an approximate final blend. If the bottled wine is anything like the barrel sample, the 2013 will be terrific at this level. Today, the 2013 is delicate, aromatic and absolutely beautiful. Fruit sources are Gabutti and pieces that don't go into the single vineyard wines. The quality of the vintage at Ceretto is evident here.
