Tasting notes
Glistening ruby. Intensely perfumed blackberry, tobacco and potpourri aromas are complicated by suggestions of olive, black pepper and candied flowers. Smooth and expansive on the palate, offering appealingly sweet dark berry and cherry-cola flavors that deepen through on the back half. Shows impressive energy and spicy thrust on the gently tannic finish, which hangs on with strong, smoky tenacity.

Seductively perfumed dark berry, floral and exotic spice qualities on the nose, along with a bright mineral flourish. Energetic blackberry, bitter cherry and candied violet flavors show fine definition and take on a smoky aspect on the back half. Fleshy and supple on the mineral-driven finish, which features repeating florality and rounded tannins that sneak in late.
Tasted from a new oak barrel, the 2018 Cote Rotie Champin le Seigneur shows plenty of generous cherry fruit. It's medium to full-bodied, ripe and lush. Just lovely stuff.
