The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Duque D'A was aged for 2 years in one-fourth new barrels. Dark garnet in the glass. The ripe nose features hints of pepper, blackberry, blueberry, dark fruit and herbs. Terse with reactive tannins, this is a little dry, with moderate freshness, but lingers at length in the center of the mouth.

NHB. Saturated ruby-black. Blackcurrant fruit pastilles with a minty-herbal note – prejudice would put this in Chile! Rich and ripe, pure cassis palate fruit with more mint character envelops very firm, drying, but quite fine tannins. Plush and polished, with pretty decent length. Still needs time! (TJ)

100% massal selection Cabernet Sauvignon planted at high elevation in 1988 not picked until the beginning of May. Smells ripe but not overripe and the palate opens with sweet but overwhelming fruit. Lively full and rich and really quite sophisticated on the palate. Arguably more approachable than the 2011 Chardonnay. (JR)

The 2011 Duque D'A Cabernet Sauvignon shows a much more restrained style and profile; it has more classical aromas and texture, showing more earth and less flowers and cassis. It's also different from the majority of Cabernets from Chile, with less power and concentration, and more subtleness and elegance. As with the 2010, it fermented in stainless steel and matured in oak barrels for 22-24 months. A new, more austere style for Duque after a short flirt with exoticism in 2010. 3,300 bottles produced.
