Score 99/100 · Drink 2025-2050, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, Jul 2023

The 2013 Château Chalon comes from a year with a later harvest, well into October. It was a cooler year with some challenges when they had to work hard, sort and discard fruit. Laurent Macle thinks cooler years with higher acidity are better for Vin Jaune, especially for wines with aging potential, and this is a great example of it. It has one full degree less than the 2015 I tasted next to it, 14%. It has the spark and freshness of the best vintages of Château Chalon, with pristine aromas and flavors, beautiful texture and a pungency and tasty saltiness that makes it very showy and long. This is aging effortlessly and should continue to do so for a very long time. This is a superb bottle of Château Chalon from the best producer in the appellation. 4,000 bottles produced.
