Pale-medium ruby-garnet. Rich and broad, with fresh, ripe, red cherry, nutty oak, chilli spice and chocolate. Fresh earth. Deep and layered. Juicy and bright palate, with fresh, crunchy red cherry, spice, earth and tea. Firm, not high, ripe tannins and a long, floral finish. Superior to the 2015. (TJ)

From one of the most celebrated crus in Monforte d'Alba, the 2012 Barolo Ginestra is a soft and accessible wine. This warm vintage reveals dark fruit, tar and toasted anise seed with a round and more immediate character that is very appealing at this young stage in the wine's life. The texture here shows medium density with long-lasting flavors of blackberry and sour cherry. The primary fruit is powerful and dark.

A big, ample wine, the 2012 Barolo Ginestra offers serious depth and intensity. Pine, mint and red stone fruits are all pushed forward. The flavors are bright, chiseled and powerful, as is so often the case with Barolos from Ginestra. Readers will have to be patient, as the just-bottled 2012 needs time to come into its own.

Maturing mid ruby with narrow orange rim. Savoury, spicy nose with soft sweet cherry underneath and a touch of vanilla. Juicy fruit with firm, firm tannins and a touch of leather on the finish. A little rustic yet very long. Unusually full-bodied for this lighter vintage. (WS)
