Tasting notes
The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru lacks cohesion and vivacity on the nose. The fruit is a little desiccated and overripe, hints of prune coming through with time. There is some Brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied with thick, slightly chewy tannins, quite burly in style with a rather heavy, imposing finish. It lacks subtlety, though at least it's clean and without volatility. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru, which was the first vineyard to be picked, has retained the precocious bouquet of blueberry and cassis, and strong violet scents emerge with time; you might describe this as "punchy." The palate is fleshy and generous, although it does not comes close to the precision and terroir expression exhibited by the 2019, which already has its nose in front.
