Tasting notes
The 2018 Corton Les Combes Grand Cru has the same delightful bouquet that I noted last year, featuring morello cherry and blood orange aromas and wonderful delineation. The palate has firmed up a bit since last year, displaying more spine and grip, with a slightly masculine finish. Classic in style, this will give up to 20 years of drinking pleasure.

The 2018 Corton Les Combes Grand Cru comes from deep clayey soils in a warm south-facing vineyard toward the bottom of the incline that was severely affected by frost in 2016. It has a vivacious bouquet of morello cherry, blood orange and light pomegranate scents that unfurl nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a palpable saline undercurrent that becomes more prominent toward the finish. A touch of spice pops up on the aftertaste. Very fine.
