Redcurrant, licorice, menthol incense and truffle on the slightly high-toned nose. Mellow aromas of plum, truffle and spices lead to a broad, ripely tannic finish with good length. "Our best Barolo for new tasters," notes Migliorini.

Slightly bolder and more rustic, the 2009 Barolo Big’d Big opens with a pretty garnet color and lively tones of dried cherry and wild berry. Accents of leather, tobacco and cured meat fill in the background with more toasted notes of spice and roasted nut at the back. The 2009 Barolo Big ‘D Big wraps around the palate with black cherries, plums, mocha, incense, tobacco, dried flowers and sweet herbs. Despite its obvious opulence, the 2009 has a certain weightlessness and refinement that is undeniably appealing. Smoke, tar, and French oak all add complexity on the dark, balsamic infused finish. In 2009, the Big is a wine of contrasts that shows different sides of its dimension over time. There is a lot to like here.
