(from a 1964 planting at an altitude of 1,400 feet on soil rich in iron oxide, according to Ehren Jordan): Bright yellow. Highly perfumed, slightly exotic nose offers scents of apricot, quince, peach oil and vanilla. Supple and thick on entry, then a bit more aggressive and less complex in the mid-palate than the Estate bottling. Just a hint of alcoholic warmth on the back end.

The 2012 Chardonnay Chuy emerges from a parcel of vines planted in 1964 on St. George rootstock. Deep, powerful and intense to the core, the 2012 Chuy displays considerable power and intensity. Ferrous notes and unbridled power from this hillside site rich in volcanic soils come together to give the Chuy distinctly red wine-like structure and weight. This is a hugely intriguing Chardonnay from Failla and Ehren Jordan.
