The 2017 Côte Rôtie Les Triotes (100% Syrah aged in 15% new French oak) offers an exotic style, with complex notes of black raspberries, bacon fat, spring flowers, and lavender/herbes de Provence aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, silky, and polished on the palate, it's another terrific wine from this estate. As I wrote last year, the running of Domaine Garon has passed largely to sons Kévin and Fabien Garon, who came on board at the domaine starting in 2003. While quality was reliable in the 2000s, since 2010, everything appears to have been on a steady upward trajectory, with the 2015 being the finest wines I’ve tasted from the estate, and magical wines produced in both 2017 and 2018. Lovers of pure, classical Côte Rôtie need to get on this estate’s bandwagon ASAP!

Deep brilliant magenta. Intensely perfumed aromas of black and blue fruit preserves, exotic spices and potpourri pick up a smoky mineral nuance with air. Juicy and energetic in the mouth, displaying sweet blueberry, cherry and salty olive flavors, along with hints of spicecake and candied violet. The floral and spice notes carry through a strikingly long, penetrating finish that features harmonious tannins and a touch of bitter chocolate.

Meatier and richer than their Sybarine, demonstrating the nuances within one (admittedly now relatively large) appellation. There is something headier and more granitic here, with a touch of earthiness about it. Fuller and more concentrated too. (RH)

The 2017 Cote Rotie Les Triotes is an elegant version of Côte Rôtie. Smoke, herbs and purple raspberries glide across a medium-bodied palate that is silky and pure, finishing long and ethereal. Drink it over the next 6-7 years.
