A very cloudy month of August resulted in only 14% alcohol and higher acidity because the lack of solar radiation, meaning lower temperatures on canopy and fruit and a slower breakdown of acids. Pale ruby with barest hint of garnet. Very classic, lightly irony, rose-y nose with a vein of iron clay. Red fruit. Lightly sandy, sticky tannins, with a bit of figgy-ness on the mid palate and a dry, savoury finish. Firm acidity. (SCJ)

The shortest submerged-cap period, 15–20 days, because the extraction was already very efficient. Autumn leaves, black pepper and then freshness and purpose. But quite drying on the end. (JR)
This is certainly one of the most popular and versatile wines made in Italy, and deservedly so. The well-priced G.D. Vajra 2019 Barolo Albe shows some ripe fruit and softness with cherry, dried raspberry and crushed rose. This vintage is similar in character to the 2016 release in that both vintages offer a linear style with good structure at the back. The mouthfeel is polished and long, affording accessibility and complexity too.
A firm and polished red with berries and spices, like nutmeg and pepper. Orange peel, too. Medium body. Fresh and energetic finish. Drink after 2026.
