The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru exceeds my predictions from barrel. It has an exquisite bouquet with black plum and raspberry fruit, hints of iris flower and violet neatly entwined with new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fluid tannins. Just a pinch of white pepper marries beautifully with the black fruit. Silky in texture, cohesive and gaining weight and density towards the finish, this is a serious Bonnes-Mares with ageing potential. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Aromas of sweet berries, cherries, vine smoke, petals and forest floor preface the 2021 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy palate that's quite muscular and layered in the context of the vintage, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a saline finish.
The 2021 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru, their only vineyard on the north side of Chambolle, includes around 50% whole bunches this year. The stems are discretely enmeshed, present, but allow the fruit and terroir to speak. I admire the freshness and joie-de-vivre here. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins, vivid black cherry fruit laced with orange zest/blood orange towards its energetic finish. Bon vin .
