Tasting notes
The 1996 Riesling Reserve will be loved by readers who crave high acid, full-flavored wines. It exhibits fabulous creamed herb and mineral aromas that lead to a crisp, lively, and super-focused finish. This medium-bodied wine's acidity levels are quite high yet it reveals enough competing lemony stuffing to merit being recommended. Drink it between 2000 and 2006. Much riper pineapple and grapefruit aromas. Penetrating and rather austere on the palate, with a classic riesling steeliness. Bone-dry and high in acidity; the normale has a bit more residual sugar (but just 2.5 grams per liter) and slightly lower acidity. Finishes with excellent length. There all too little dry riesling like this one from the 1997 vintage.
