The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne 1er Cru has an attractive nose with touches of slate and a slight fumé scent that complements the malic aromas. This gains precision in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a crisp bead of acidity. A stem ginger note hides in the background, whilst the finish feels reassuringly persistent. This should age well in bottle.

A strong effort, the 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Garenne (Maison Louis Jadot) reveals aromas of white currant, crisp orchard fruit and peach mingled with hints of beeswax and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny, with racy acids and a saline finish, it's a lively, impressively complete white.

Louis Jadot is arguably the most consistent négociant house in Burgundy. It has managed to straddle both the entry-level and fine wine market, while retaining respect in both.
