Tasting notes
The 2021 Mâcon-Pierreclos Lieu Secret is aged in 20% new oak. That's not a huge percentage, though it seems pronounced now, rendering it seductive but requiring some bottle age. The palate is, again, oaky, though there is balance and a slightly buttery finish that is Antipodean in style. A guilty pleasure courtesy of Jean-Marie Guffens? I think this just misses his usual magic touch. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting.

Savoured with Raj Parr of Phelan Farms at Noble Rot, Lamb's Conduit Street. Very pure and linear in Verget style yet with no shortage of fruit. Clean as a whistle. (JR)
Unwinding in the glass with aromas of pear, citrus oil, buttered toast and vanilla pod, the 2021 Mâcon-Pierreclos Lieu Sécret is medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and vibrant, with a satiny attack that segues into a racy mid-palate and a mineral finish.
