Tasting notes
Classic all the way, the 2020 Saint Joseph gives up beautiful darker blue, fig, and black cherry-like fruit as well as ground pepper, bacon fat, and leather. Straight-up gorgeous on the palate as well, this medium to full-bodied effort has integrated tannins, a focused, old school-like mouthfeel, polished tannins, and a great finish. I'd be a buyer. It will keep for 15 years at a minimum. This cuvée comes from the steep, granite hillsides around Mauves and Tournon, and is raised in 228- and 600-liter barrels.

Dark violet color. Fragrant, spice-tinged blackberry, cherry, smoky bacon and olive aromas take on a floral nuance with aeration. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering intense dark fruit preserves, espresso, cracked pepper and floral pastille flavors that are energized by a hint of smoky minerality. Closes with repeating floral and spice notes, gently gripping tannins and strong persistence. 25% whole clusters here and 15% new oak.
