The 2013 Barolo from Alberto Burzi in La Morra looks quite mature in color. Red berries, hints of licorice and rose petal form the understated nose, while the palate is built around an appealing core of red fruit and touches of sour cherry and orange peel, leading to a finish of commendable depth. This is drinking perfectly now. Tasted at the inaugural Vinous off-line.

Burzi's 2013 Barolo is a soft, supple wine to drink now and over the next few years, before the fruit fades too much further. For the moment, there is lovely pliancy to the sweet red cherry, tobacco, orange peel and floral notes, but the 2013 is already a bit forward. Drink it over the next few years.
